What is documented lives on Companions and Story Walkthrough: Ran is a full heroine who joins around desert / Chapter 2 timing, not in the opening village hour.

Stay on v1.0h. Numbered notes never name this quest string. They still matter: v1.0b Golden Cat companion locks, v1.0d substory progression, v1.0g substories that disabled saving after clear, v1.0h Config milking and unfocused-window play (Release Notes, Substory Log).

If you already have Ran in the party and the quest log is empty, you are looking for a substory flag, not a recruit. If she has never appeared, you are still on the story spine.

Recruit first — desert / Chapter 2

Players asking how do I get Ran? usually mean the playable join, not the titled quest.

1. Push the main spine until the desert / Chapter 2 content is reachable (Story Walkthrough).
2. Do not expect her in the starting village tutorial.
3. When she appears higher level than Marie and Elucia, check stamina before you assume EXP is soft-locked. Empty stamina halves Combat EXP on v1.0e+ (Combat Basics).
4. After she joins, treat her as a full heroine: Church fertility, one artifact slot, Sylva-only birth.

This wiki will not invent a cave tile, NPC name, or dialogue option for the join. If your Chapter 2 desert is done and she still is not in the roster, update to v1.0h, then check Known Issues for substory / save bugs before restarting.

The titled quest is still an open wall

Too Hot to Handle is the itch title. Community posts do not yet list:

• which town board or NPC starts it
• whether it needs a prior Golden Cat visit
• whether it needs a specific sluttiness or pregnancy state
• whether it is missable if you skip the desert side rooms

Until a version-stamped screenshot exists, useful checks are the same as every other stuck substory:

1. Talk to Mandrake (carrot in the box) if the journal is still BETA (Seqioptaht, Substory Log).
2. Save outside event rooms. v1.0g fixed substories that disabled saving after clear — update if you cannot save after a Ran scene.
3. Try party composition. Reika / Rosalotta flags already break Golden Cat access for some players.
4. Do not mix this hunt with Desert Caves. The kidnapped-dancers maze has a teleport escape; a missing quest flag does not.

Pregnancy while you hunt the flag

Walking the desert still ticks gestation. v1.0g logs Overdue. Labor only fires at Sylva City Inn. v1.0e can block automatic childbirth; v1.0h can block automatic milking on sleep (Content Settings).

If Ran is already in the party and approaching 100%, deliver her before you grind an unanswered quest. Birth power-ups are real stats; an unverified NPC hunt is not.
