Festival Rival Boss Guide

Festival Rival is the named mid-game skill check that launch Steam reviews and itch feedback kept repeating: even Easy felt overtuned, the boss used too many skills, and the fight ran like a three-stage gimmick. No Budget Developer answered in numbered notes — Patch Note v1.0c readjusted Festival Rival balance, then v1.0e readjusted it again. This page exists so you retry the current fight instead of grinding day-one tuning, and so Difficulty Settings can stay a hub instead of a wall of boss essays.

Stay on v1.0h (itch zip Marie's Adventure.v.1.0h.zip, August 16, 2026). Later letters did not retune Festival Rival a third time, but they did change the tools around it: v1.0f smoothed the difficulty curve, cut many Safe Day Max HP values, reworked Volkard, and changed Stuffed / Belly Slap. v1.0g fixed Killswipe, Demonology Rewrite, and Safe Day HP scaling on Remuru. v1.0h added Config disable automatic milking on sleep and keeps the game running when the window is unfocused — useful when a long festival attempt is alt-tabbed. Read Release Notes if your install still says 1.0c.

Why this fight ate launch week

Player wording is consistent across Steam and itch:

  • The quest is story-gated, so you cannot endlessly overlevel before the window.
  • Easy / Safe Day helps less than expected — the goddess difficulty item still matters, but it is not a skip button.
  • Skill spam and multi-stage structure feel closer to a JRPG wall than a typical H-RPG speed bump.

This wiki will not invent a fake skill list, HP table, or “press this one command to win.” Official notes only promise balance readjustments. Community phase scripts that appeared for Jurai Castle Boss have not been posted at the same confidence for Festival Rival. Prep and version are the honest levers.

Festival-class combat pressure

Prep checklist (do this on v1.0h)

  1. Confirm the letter. Steam News / itch Patch Note should be v1.0h. If you last lost on 1.0–1.0b, you never saw either Rival retune.
  2. Deliver pending pregnancies at Sylva City Inn so birth power-ups land (How to Give Birth, Party Progression).
  3. Restore stamina. v1.0e halves Combat EXP after stamina is exhausted. A festival wall on empty stamina is a wipe that also wastes the grind behind it (Combat Basics).
  4. Clear Stuffed. v1.0f blocks stamina recovery from food while Stuffed and lowers Intoxicated chance. Snack loops will not save a three-stage fight.
  5. Set difficulty on purpose. Return to the opening goddess area and use the item on the ground (Difficulty Settings). v1.0d revamped Safe Day; v1.0f added Max HP cuts with exclusions. Re-test even if Safe Day felt identical on 1.0d.
  6. Check Chroma. Vitality 3 granted wrong stats until v1.0c — the same letter as the first Rival retune (Chroma).
  7. Swap artifacts honestly. Crown of Fortune Cat is a multiples relic, not a festival counter (Artifacts). Equip a combat-leaning piece if you have one.
  8. Stock potions with brothel gold (Brothel Guide).
  9. Manual save immediately before the encounter. App 4819360 does not list Steam Cloud (Save Files).
  10. Killswipe only after v1.0g. If your plan was a broken skill, update first (Hellebore).

Fight mindset after the retunes

Treat Festival Rival as:

  • A story-window boss, not an overworld pack you can postpone forever.
  • A fight that should feel less spiked after v1.0c and v1.0e, plus the v1.0f curve pass — still not a free win.
  • A manual encounter. Auto-battle through unknown stages is how launch-week wipes stacked.

Practical habits that match Marie’s Adventure combat:

  • Focus fire; do not chip three targets while the Rival is charging a wipe tool.
  • Heal before the party enters wipe range.
  • Respect Belly Slap stamina gates from v1.0f — a wasted turn during a gimmick stage hurts more than a conservative defend.
  • If a stage suddenly feels like instant fail on magic, stop and compare notes with Jurai Castle Boss. Do not assume every mid-game wall uses the same rule; Jurai’s no-magic phase is that fight’s community finding.

Use the v1.0g post-battle EXP log after trash packs on the way in. If the log shows scraps, you are grinding at half EXP on empty stamina.

Pregnancy routing around the festival

Do not enter at 100% unless you can reach Sylva immediately after. Wipe loops waste a birth window and can push someone Overduev1.0g now logs that line. Preferred routes:

  1. Deliver → restock → fight, or
  2. Fight mid-gestation with a nearby save, then walk to 100% after victory.

Walking after the festival still advances pregnancy. Sleeping alone never does (Pregnancy System). If you only needed a rest in Sylva, v1.0e can block automatic childbirth and v1.0h can block automatic milking (Content Settings).

Festival Rival is the boss the developer named twice in Patch Notes. Update past both retunes, land births, and treat Easy as a helper — not a skip. The rest is turn discipline, not a missing unofficial accessory.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Which patches changed Festival Rival?

v1.0c readjusted Festival Rival balance, and v1.0e readjusted it again. Update to v1.0h so later stamina, Safe Day, and Killswipe fixes are also live.

Does Easy mode make Festival Rival trivial?

Players say no. Use the goddess-area difficulty item, then still bring births, Chroma, and a full stamina bar.

Should I fight Festival Rival before updating?

No. A loss on v1.0 or v1.0b is practicing obsolete tuning. Update first, then retry from a manual save.

Is there an official phase script?

No numbered note lists Festival Rival phases. This wiki documents prep and version, not invented skill rotations.

Can I change difficulty mid-run before the festival?

Yes. Return to the starting goddess area and use the item on the ground — see Difficulty Settings.
